Lake Trasimeno, the pearl of Umbria, is the third largest lake in Italy by extension, and the same with its neighboring towns lends itself to a daily visit. Along the perimeter of the lake overlook the towns of Castiglione del Lago, Passignano sul Trasimeno, San Feliciano and Tuoro. From one of these towns you can embark for the islands of the lake, of the three only two can be visited. The largest, the Polvese Island, with an area of about 70 hectares, can be visited since 1995 from its coasts you can enjoy an exceptional visit and it is possible to visit the Rocca and the Church of San Giuliano. Isola Maggiore, the only one still inhabited, on which, in addition to enjoying the beautiful views, and having direct contact with the nature of the lake, offers a visit to the beautiful hamlet; in particular it is possible to visit a place dear to St. Francis of Assisi, with the homonymous chapel dedicated to him and other places of a religious-spiritual nature. The Isola Minore cannot be visited because it is private, it is almost uncontaminated and has a rich diversity of flora and fauna inside. Definitely worth visiting on the shores of the lake are the towns of Passignano sul Trasimeno and Castione del Lago. Both villages, of medieval origin, are perfectly preserved and offer tourists beautiful views; inside the town there are some typical restaurants where you can taste the local specialties, based on fish from the Trasimeno waters.
