What to see in Montefalco
Located on the top of the homonymous hill Montefalco is a village surrounded by vineyards and olive groves rich in artistic and cultural heritage. Its strategic position, which allowed to have a full view of the territory between Perugia and Spoleto, made the small historic center of fundamental importance already in Roman times. Between 1320 and 1355 it was the seat of the Papal Curia of Spoleto, then it became an important political and artistic center.
Among the places of cultural interest it is certainly necessary to remember the Church of San Francesco in which there are a cycle of frescoes that tell the Stories from the life of St. Francis by Benozzo Gozzoli and works by various artists such as the Perugino, Francesco Melanzio and Antoniazzo Romano. Other tourist attractions are certainly there Thirteenth-century walls, the Church of Sant'Agostino, The Palazzo Comunale, the Church of St. Bartholomew.
The village is also the scene of a strong folk tradition with the manifestations of the Grape Harvest Festival, Pacifier game and the run of the Escape of the Ox.
