Orvieto Cathedral

the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, Cathedral of Orvieto, is considered one of the most beautiful Gothic-style architectural structures in central Italy. The works for its construction began in 1290 by the will of Pope Niccolò IV after the miracle of the blood occurred in Bolsena.

different artists worked over time to create the façade, but despite this the structure is highly harmonious. The facade is characterized by bas-reliefs and mosaics that tell the stories of the Old Testament, the New Testament and the Last Judgment. Of great beauty is certainly the Orcagna rose window located in the upper part of the structure.

Internally the church consists of three naves whose pillars and walls are built with basalt and travertine plates, the Chapel of San Brizio and that of the Corporal.
