Piazza Grande is the main square of Gubbio, an imposing majestic construction of medieval town planning is characterized by its identity as a hanging square. In 1321-22 work began, thanks to the construction of the enormous arches that support the stalls which confers its hanging nature; the square divides Gubbio into its 4 districts. On it overlook the Palazzo dei Consoli, the Palazzo Pretorio and the neoclassical Palazzo Ranghiasci. Every year on the square on May 15th the "lift" of the Corsa dei Ceri is performed.
